Patrick Swayze’s Widow Decides ‘It’s Time’ To Remove Wedding Ring

They say ‘time heals all wounds.‘ Two years after losing her beloved husband, Lisa Niemi Swayze is moving forward and making some changes in her life. Lisa has written a book about her 34-year marriage to Patrick Swayze,  added  “Swayze” to her name and  finally removed her wedding ring. Lisa explains how she knew ‘it was time to remove her wedding ring‘ and why….Lisa Niemi Swayze has been out promoting her new book titled “Worth Fighting For: Love, Loss and Moving Forward“, and Lisa said she was determined to tell the truth about her life with Patrick, the good times and not so good times too. Lisa told New York Live:

“About a year ago or eight months ago, all of a sudden I had this bizarre thought and it didn’t really make sense to me, but I had a moment when I went, ‘you know what this ring says? This says I’m married to his physical form, and actually my connection to him, since he has been gone, has been much deeper than that. And I felt like in a way, for me personally, wearing the ring was lying about the depth of our relationship.”

Grieving over the loss of a spouse is a process, and everyone is different. In my opinion, there is no ‘right or wrong’ choices when it comes to wearing your wedding ring when you lose your spouse.

My little brother Rob Keyandwy passed away two years ago too, at age 36, and he left behind a wife and a 3-year old son. My brother’s wife Kelly struggled with her decision as to ‘when’ she should remove her wedding ring, and asked my advice. I told her that “she should do whatever she felt was right and don’t let ANYONE tell you what you should do and ‘when’ you should do it.”

I personally think that there is absolutely no ‘time-table for grieving’ and or  ‘moving on‘ after losing a spouse, or any loved one for that matter. I think we should support our friends and family in whatever decisions they make, because there is no right or wrong way to grieve at all.
