Joey Caretti at bell ringing ceremony on 11-11-11

Joey Caretti is a very brave 11-year-old boy, who recently battled a very rare brain cancer. He rang the bell on 11-11-11, to symbolize the end of chemo. He and his family were elated. Friends cheered. Then the bubble burst when over the next few weeks Joey got weaker and very tired. Testing and a biopsy show that he now has a second cancer – leukemia. Joey now faces more chemo, and a bone marrow transplant.

Joey Caretti was recently featured on Fox 2 news in Detroit, and we also posted a story here on WYCD asking you to send Joey a ‘Get Well Soon’ card to keep his spirits up while fighting cancer for the third time in the past few years.

You can still send Joey a card by clicking the link above, but now the MOST important thing to is find a “bone marrow match” for Joey and YOU could be one match, and the one who can help save his life!

Two Ways YOU Can Help With Joey’s Bone Marrow Donor Drive:

1) If you are between the Ages of 18-60 and in good health:

Please attend the Bone Marrow Donor Drive on Monday, December 19th at Morgan Elementary, located in Shelby Township, 53800 Mound Road from 2-8 p.m. The suggested donation is $10. A simple swipe of a cotton swab inside of your mouth, along with a quick questionnaire, is all that is needed to complete registry.

2. If you do not meet the age or health requirements and/or wish to give in a different way

Consider a monetary gift, to help defray the costs of donating. Each sample taken costs approximately $100 to process, and you can click HERE to donate and help Joey, his family and others who are also waiting for a bone marrow match to save their life!

Thanks for your help, God bless you and Merry Christmas! Love, Linda Lee

    Hi Linda!
How can I get in contact with somebody that is running this bone marrow drive for Joey next week? I lost my best friend to leukemia this summer and Ive been doing all I can to help with the cause. Ive put on two bone marrow drives this year at CMU (Where I am currently a sophomore) and have registered over 400 of my peers. 4 of them have already been called as matches for patients waiting for donors!
I just wanted to contact who ever contacted you about this drive because I would love to help volunteer at it or even help promote it.
This is a cause that I hold close to my heart and am willing to do whatever it takes to help raise awareness.
If you could reply either here or to my email I would greatly appreciate it!!
    Thank you so much!

    Hi Linda,

I wanted to let you know that Joey’s story has changed my family’s life. He is such a strong and courageous boy, which has given us strength as well.

Recently my 12 year old daughter took Joey’s story to her student council, they are meeting about it tomorrow. I will be sending her with the update to Joey’s story concerning the bone marrow drive. We live downriver, I am wondering if there is anything we can do from here that could be beneficial, since Shelby Township might be a bit far for most of the students and parents from this area.
    Thank you so much!
    Marti

Hi Marti~ You daughter sounds like such a good-hearted girl…you did good Mama!! If you send me an e-mail to: Linda@wycd.com , I will put you in touch with Joey’s Mom Lisa, and see if there is any other way to help with the bone marrow drive, closer in your area. If you go to the story, there IS a link there, where folks can donate money, to offset the cost of processing the swabs from the bone marrow drive too. I made a donation too, because I too, am unable to attend the BMD. God bless you and your family for helping Joey too! Merry Christmas! ~Linda Lee
