OMG! ‘Temporary’ & Renewable’ Marriage License?

Did you hear the news about the foreign country that is considering ‘temporary marriage licenses‘….like a driver’s license that  you would renew every few years? With the high rate of divorce, would this maybe be  a good idea here in the US too?Officials in Mexico City are considering a new way to address the city’s high divorce rates: by making marriages temporary.

Here’s how it would work: Couples would be allowed to decide on the length of their marriage, with a minimum license of two years, and the contracts would contain prenup-like legalese about financial support, how marital assets would be divided, and who gets custody of the kids. At the end of the contract, happy couples could opt to renew for another two years, while those who are tired of being together could simply walk away without a legal hassle.

Do you think this could be a good idea, and help bring down the high rate of divorce here in the US?

This will only bring down the number of marriages ended in the word divorce. It will not bring down the number of actual homes broken… it may even go to increase it!
