There is not much that $10 can get you right now.  I can remember when $10 would last me a whole weekend, no problem.  Right now, thanks to Comcast, there is a chance you can qualify for a special program called Internet Essentials!

According to Dwight Silverman at Chron.com, Comcast has a special program for families in need for internet, a special package for only $10!  This special package for low-income households is actually a mandate from the FCC when Comcast acquired NBC Universal.  According to the Essentials website:

“To qualify for $9.95 a month Internet service and a low-cost computer, your household must meet all these criteria:

  • Be located where Comcast offers Internet service
  • Have at least one child receiving free school lunches through the National School Lunch Program
  • Have not subscribed to Comcast Internet service within the last 90 days
  • Not have an overdue Comcast bill or unreturned equipment”
And this internet package isn’t the only thing you could possibly qualify for!  There is a chance that if you cannot afford a computer as well, there is a special laptop for $150 as well.
Internet Essentials participants have the opportunity to purchase a netbook-style laptop computer. This computer supports wired and Wi-Fi Internet connectivity. Every computer shipped includes Windows 7 Starter operating system and Internet browser software. Additional productivity software may be included when available.
If you know someone who may benefit from this program in any way, please visit the programs site at InternetEssentials.com  or learn more about it at Chron.com
