Recording an album while you’re on tour is tricky, even for the most seasoned music pros. So American Idol champ [lastfm link_type="artist_info"]Scotty McCreery[/lastfm] has had to skip “Recording Artist 101″ and go straight to the advanced course!
And Scotty’s sharing some details about what we can expect on his first album.
[photogallerylink id=94381 align=left]So why is Scotty recording in between shows on the tour? Because Idol winners release their albums during the Fall after their victory — and they tour all Summer. So, they’ve gotta squeeze in recording sessions when they can.
“We laid down the tracks in Nashville before the tour, and did all the songs and stuff,” Scotty tells Billboard. ” So now pretty much any pitstop we have we are going to the nearest studio and laying down vocals for it and hopefully getting it done as quickly as possible while still making it just right. So on the days off we’re working hard. It’s definitely a full day in the studio every time I go in.”
Scotty’s album is being produced by Mark Bright, who’s also produced hits for another Idol country champ — [lastfm link_type="artist_info"]Carrie Underwood[/lastfm]. And it sounds like it’ll be an album full of original material.
“We’ve looked into the possibility of doing a cover,” Scotty says. “But we’re thinking if we have this one chance to do a whole album of new, original stuff, why take up one slot of the album with a cover song, especially after I just got done with a show full of covers.”
