Be A ‘Healthy Snacker’ This Weekend!

I admit, I am always looking for a reason to sit back and snack on good food, so when it comes to Memorial Day Weekend, I am in heaven!  While BBQ is a crucial key for a great weekend at the Brighton Compound, there is one thing that gets my sweet tooth – donuts! 

According to Yahoo, there is nothing holding us back to having the snacks we want…in moderation that is.  Where most of us go wrong is we decide to completely cut out those foods we love, and when we give in, we tend to eat more than we usually would because it is that “forbidden food.”

“Denying yourself a full food group or even one specific food will make it more desirable,” says Sondra Kronberg, M.S., R.D., NEDA spokesperson, and director of the Eating Disorder Treatment Collaborative. “You’ll want it even more because it’s forbidden—and your body will physically crave it if you’re depriving yourself of a given nutrient.”

I don’t know why I have never thought about this before.  I still love to hear that I am able to nibble on my favorite treats every once in a while.

Once all of the other nutritional needs have been met, 10 to 15 percent of your caloric intake can come from treats,” says Alan Aragon, M.S., and Men’s Health nutrition expert.

I think my math may be a bit off of 15 percent this weekend!
