“As a labor of love, I’ve hosted the annual Telethon since 1966 and I’ll be making my final appearance on the show this year by performing my signature song, `You’ll Never Walk Alone,'” the 85-year-old Lewis said in a statement. Lewis will keep his job as national Muscular Dystrophy Association chairman, which he’s held since the early 50s. Said Lewis, “I’ll never desert MDA and my kids.”

I love Jerry and have all my life he is a great man and actor but mostly the greatest humanitarian I wish I would have had a chance to meet. When I was 15 yrs old I and “Teddy Bear” a very dear friend who had MD went to Dundee and did a Rock A Thon for MD and Teddy Bear went on CH 13. It was one of the proudest moments of my life being able to be there and help earn money for MD I am 46 and I still have my Certificates from Jerry for volunteering back then. I will remember Him always… maybe I will get that chance to meet him someday.

I love ya Teddy Bear and we miss you buddy. Ya know I heard a song from Red Solvine years ago that is about a boy named Teddy Bear and his trucker friends and him always chatting with them on the cb radio. Turns out … that describes our Teddy Bear to a T…. he did the same thing and we used to tease him about the Truckers that come to visit him after chatting with him on the cb… I had the pleasure of listening to him on the cb in his basement and listening to how happy it made him that they responded to him all day long. Byron Henricks (Teddy Bear) will always be that boy that Red sang about ….
