Not sure exactly ‘when’ we lost control, but it became obvious in a hurry, that we needed help in training our beloved little Yorkies, Mama Priscilla, Uncle Elvis and the ‘new baby’ Lisa “Miracle” Marie! So we have called in a ‘professional dog trainer’ to give us the help and advice we need.
Here is the “Poop Scoop”: We have a ‘potty in the house’ issue that went from bad to worse in a hurry! We moved from one home that had a fenced in yard, to one without, and now our dogs have to all be on leashes all the time, which they were not used to in our old home. We lost a beloved family member, my Dad who passed away after the move too. Both of these events affected our dogs too! Then we bred Priscilla, who had 3 more puppies, caring for them 24/7 for the first 10 weeks! Miracle is the puppy we kept from that litter.
Before the puppies were born, we starting noticing that ‘one or both our dogs’ were occasionally ‘doing their business’ on carpeted areas of our home. Both Elvis and Priscilla were 100% potty trained prior to our move here. Now that we have a new puppy, it became apparent, that she was learning ‘bad behavior’ from the older dogs. After our first visit this week from ‘the ‘dog whisperer’….that’s what we call Sarah, from Think Pawsitive Dog Training LLC, she explained that we have a ‘sneaky pooper‘ in our home!
We believe that the ‘sneaky pooper‘ is Priscilla, and think she is leading Miracle to her ‘secret spots’ when we turn our head for even a minute! So “Potty Training 101” has begun here at our home! We are also working on ‘Clicker Training’ which rewards the dogs for ‘good behavior!’
My husband, daughter Gina and I all met with Sarah who gave us lots of great advice and tips on how to train all the dogs to go ‘potty outside’ and also the benefits of ‘positive training methods.’
We just started all this on Monday, so I will keep you posted on our progress! I told Sarah that we were referring to her as the “Dog Whisperer” and she said that really she is a ‘dog listener!’ I am thinking that she is a pro at “listening to the dogs, so she can better train their owners!!” Wish us luck!
Just had to share this picture of our ‘fur-baby’ Miracle on her very first pontoon boat ride! Is she too dang adorable or what?
