All the great stars of yesterday, like the one & only [lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]George Jones[/lastfm], have molded and still continue to inspire the stars of today as well! Still going strong at the age of 79, George still tours and sings, and I was blessed to see him not once, but twice already at our WYCD Downtown Hoedown! I have a pretty funny ‘inside story’ about one of his appearances in Hart Plaza too!
Here’s a funny & true story too! Many years ago, when [lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]George Jones[/lastfm] and [lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]Tammy Wynette[/lastfm] were both scheduled to appear the same day at the WYCD Downtown Hoedown, I was hoping they would be taking the stage together, singing some of their famous duets…what a treat that would be! Well, NOT to be, is more accurate!
I found out when I got there that day, that even though they have both remarried and decades have passed since their divorce, George and Tammy both REFUSED to perform together onstage! I am not sure who ‘demanded that there be at least one act separating’ their onstage performances, but I do know that the promoter had to scramble reschedule them with a ‘separating act’ in between their performances!
Straight out of the country closet, here is my all-time favorite song by George Jones that still gives me goose bumps every single time I hear it: “He Stopped Long Her Today”
