By far, [lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]Dierks Bentley[/lastfm] is one of the hottest acts in country music right now. But growing up in Phoenix, AZ doesn’t always produce a love of country music, let alone a big star. Dierks credits getting in trouble as a kid, and being away from home, for his love of the music he plays.
According to AOL’s The Boot, Dierks got into quite a bit of trouble as a teenager, and being sent to a boarding school is here he grew to love country music.
“If I hadn’t gone [to boarding school], I would never have discovered country music,” he notes. “I made some great friends — and had a love of Jersey girls — but country reminded me of home and Arizona.”
Dierks has always tried to push the envelope when it comes to country music. When he hit the scene at 19, [lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]Garth Brooks[/lastfm] was played all the time. Dierks told The Boot that a lot of singers tried to be like Garth and put the big hat on, but that was not what he wanted.
That was a good choice for Dierks. He tried his hand at bluegrass with great success, and he switched gears again!
“I spent the last five months working on a record coming out in August,” Dierks reveals. “It’s electric country, with a lot of bass and drums. The first song is a big party song. It’s called ‘Am I the Only One?’ and it’s a song about trying to drag your buddies out to have a good time.”
Here is the new tune:
Hopefully you will be able to see him May 6 at the Fillmore and check out that new song!
