Zac Brown Building A Summer Camp For Special Needs Children

zac brown Zac Brown Building A Summer Camp For Special Needs Children

Zac Brown looks like a mountain man and like someone who loves camping. I know, I know, I shouldn’t judge a book by its cover. But, it just so happens he does like to camp and he likes helping out special children.

Zac Brown is putting together a camp for special needs children and their families. According to CMT.com, the new Camp Southern Ground will be on 360 acres of Georgia farmland and it will specialize in kids with neurobehavioral and learning difficulties such as ADD/ADHD, dyslexia, Tourette’s syndrome, Asperger’s syndrome and autism spectrum disorders. Not only will the camp be for the children, it will also have special programs for the parents as well. The website for the camp, (link is above) is already up and filled with information.

Zac Brown says on his website,  “To me, there is nothing more worthwhile than helping kids,” ”I grew up working with kids while on staff at summer camps and remember how they were impacted during their visits. Their time at camp helped to make a difference in their lives and will last them a lifetime. Camp Southern Ground will work with special needs children while providing them with lodging and facilities to most effectively contribute to their rehabilitation. The highly trained staff will offer a wide variety of therapeutic activities that are designed to help stimulate the mind and body and encourage development, all in a beautiful setting. This is the year to get it started!”

[photogallerylink id=29519 align=left]The best part about the camp, out side of being awesome by helping these kids, is that it’s FREE. Now, that’s cool. Just goes to show you, again, how great country folk are! Always there to lend a helping hand. Zac has a special place for kids in his heart, he has a few precious little ones of his own. Not sure when the camp will be open and taking applications, but you can continue to check their website for updates!

This is one of my favorite songs from the [lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]Zac Brown Band[/lastfm], “Free,” performed live on David Letterman.

Thank you so much! My 7-year-old daughter has high-functioning autism. It is so expensive to care for kids like ours. It is so generous of you to allow children to attend free. There is a special place in heaven for you.
