Why Would Our Beloved Red Wings Give Away A Honda?

honda red wing opt Why Would Our Beloved Red Wings Give Away A Honda?

We are…Hockeytown. The Motor City. Home of the Big Three, Chrysler, GM and Ford. So please tell me WHY would the Wings plan a grand ‘car giveaway’ and give away a Honda?

Nobody wants to look a gift horse in the mouth…but what the heck are they thinking? I’m willing to bet that Ford, GM or Chrysler would gladly have given them a car to give away in exchange for all the promotion, and to support our beloved Red Wings!

What do you think about this…OK…or NOT?

No it is not OK. Shame on the franchise for doing this.

  2. Heather says:

Wake up fans…these foreign cars are built is NA just like the big 3 & their plants employ americans. blaim big unions who’s retirement & benefit packages contribute to the big 3’s problems. our great country was founded by foreigners…let’s try to follow their example & pull up our own bootstraps.

Maybe Red Wings asked, and Ford GM Chrysler didn’t want to donate! Let me ask this ? do people have a problem with giving away Samsung/Sony TV’s or what kind of cell phones do we all buy and carry around, alot of times we don’t really have a choice? For all those that complain about it, look in your house, and look around and see all the other foreign products you have, why is it that the automobile is always a big rukis, and why do people always say ohhh gotta by american, but yet the Ford Focus is manufactured in Mexico? Believe me if American car companies built a superior product most people wouldn’t have a problem, I have always been a Chevy guy growing up, and loved wrenching on them, now I cannot anymore, I decided to give Chrysler cars a try, and two of them fell apart around 118,000 miles. Also, why don’t we complain about people buying BMW’s or any other expensive foreign vehicle? Just asking the question, that some might not think about.

Just doesn’t make sense to me. Surrounded by American!!! car companies and they decide to give away a Japanese car and give them all the promotion, instead of helping out Detroit, their own city. I mean come on Ilitch, way to drop the ball or puck. Really… a JAPANESE!! car.

  5. Joe says:

I am all about buying American, but I would rather win a foreign car before an American car! I would sell the Honda to someone who would have originally bought a foreign car then I would use that money to buy a Ford!!
    Buy American! http://www.MadeinUSAProductsStore.com

I think it’s a shame. They have made millions in their hometown of Detroit, the Motor City! Thousands of their fans are Detroit auto workers. I think it was a bad PR move for the boys from the Motorcity!

  7. Laura Sapp says:

Times are really bad right now and if they feel like giving away more than 1 free car I say “excuse me’? where do I sign up? Not working is really bad I so miss my job as a crossing guard for a High school in SCS,Michigan and I to need a new car.loosing our home soon and Our cars omg, do not get me started, everything is just not great at all this year and I usually Love the holidays,I listen to you guys to perk me up, Bu God Bless to all out there.

  8. Jenn says:

Yes, I find this COMPLETELY wrong! DETROIT Redwings not Japanese Redwings! Shame on the not only the franchise, but also shame on the players for letting this go on!

  9. Tom says:

This is a huge outrage and I think those who don’t agree are missing the point. Yes, I understand that the civic is built in the US. Yes, many of my appliances and electronics are made overseas. That’s NOT the point.
The point is that this is DETROIT. The home of the big three. My father, uncle and both grandfathers worked for Ford and GM; And now the largest account for the company I work for is GM. I am not the minority either. Of the 4.5 million in the Metro-Detroit area, I think it’s safe to say that it is hard to find somebody who does not work for or have family that works for the big 3.
GM is responsible for providing employment to my family over the years and now myself so I will continue to buy their world class products. I think many have the same concept of brand loyalty.
And these are the very people spending their money (courtesy of the big 3) at the Wings games. Giving away a Honda in Detroit is a slap in the face. Would you try to raffle off Patriots tickets in Green Bay? Give away a case of Budweiser at Oktoberfest in Germany? NO. So if you are going to give away a Honda, do it somewhere else.

I got a few choice words I would love to use about this..but I am posting on ur web site. So I guess I will keep it clean!! For The Wings to offer a foriegn car as a promo is the most rediculous thing I have heard since the elections! Is this REALLY the message you want to send? COME TO DETROIT, WE’LL GIVE YOU A JAP CAR… I think NOT!!!

  11. mike says:

The Wings are not giving away anything. Honda is giving away a car at a Wing’s game.

  12. Cindy says:

When I heard this, I was amazed that the Wings might think to support an automaker other than our Hometown companies. So, I went to the Wings site. There, I found that the Wings ARE NOT giving away a Honda, but that the Detroit Honda Club is using the Wings game as a forum to award a car.
I am disappointed that the Wings would allow this, but I am glad they are not the ones giving the car away. To those who vented about the unions causing the fiasco in the auto industry, yes, they were a part of the issue. But so is management, and government, and just plain greed. Yes, greed. We look at just the final cost of the car, without thinking where the profits end up, and the workers who live in our communities and support our local economies. Honda has no plants in Michigan. The workers in the plants they do have in the US make substantially less than other auto workers, and have a less comprehensive benefit package. Profits roll back to the parent company in Japan. We all need to remember that this company is operating at a trade deficit, and we are all responsible for it.

Maybe if it was the Lions I could understand, but the Red Wings? C’mon that’s ridiculous.
